His First Cast

A trip to Children's ER wasn't on my list of things to do today, but Dalton had other plans. He pulled out the folding step stool and after I told him it was dangerous and to put it back he tripped and fell onto the folded stool with his fingers between the legs. He pinched his finger pretty bad (as in it was stuck and difficult for me to get it removed). We thought it needed stitches and was broken. It was borderline on stitches so we chose not too. But he fractured the tip bone in his middle finger. Because of his age and that it was a vertical break through almost all of the bone this is the cast they gave him.
I think this is the worst thing about only having one car. I had to call Jed and we had to wait for him to get here before we could get on our way. And at the time he was no where close to calm like this.
Children's Hospital is seriously amazing. We saw one resident, one ER doctor, one orthopedic doctor, an xray tech, and at least four different nurses between figuring out if he was getting stitches, getting the xrays, and casting him. Every single person there was so good to Dalton and us for that matter. It makes signing that debit card slip for the huge ER co-pay not so painful. ;O)

He was seriously such a big boy and a total trooper. We had to rush home and only had 30 minutes before Jed and I had to leave to get to the hospital for the first section of our refresher course for labor and delivery. We felt really guilty leaving him, but luckily his favorite non relative was watching him. Teresa said he did great with it. So here's to the next two weeks of not getting it wet, not using it as a weapon at nursery. and Daddy not sabotaging him by awkwardly giving him his sippy cup. ;O)

  1. oh no! Poor little man. He kind of looks like he's loving it though, hahaha. Best of luck to you with the next few weeks. I think this cast things is going to be much harder on you than on him.
