Stella and her Extra Ultrasounds

This is the blog post where I can't hold it in anymore and just talk about how I'm feeling right now.
I'm not sure how many people actually read my blog anymore, I didn't have a comment for months, but I know I'm not as good at commenting anymore. Really I just need to let it be out there but in a safe way. I have so many people on my friends list on Facebook and I love to see what those people are up to, but this isn't for everyone to know. Before writing this, we've let four people know.
A few weeks ago when we found out for sure that the babe was a little girl, we were told by my good friend that there were some cysts on her brain. At that moment my world stopped. I remember not being able to breathe. She told us not to worry and that this is a very common thing and to not look online. So what do I do? I get home and look online. I thought as long as I stayed off of forums where mothers were talking and just stayed on a medical facts site I'd be fine, and to be honest I am fine. But here is what I've found. This site below is the least scary (most positive) that I found. Even the websites that are medical, like schools and organizations can relay their information in the scariest of ways.

What are choroid plexus cysts?
The choroid plexus is the part of the brain that makes cerebrospinal fluid, the fluid that normally bathes and protects the brain and spinal column. In about 1 to 2 percent of normal babies — 1 out of 50 to 100 — a tiny bubble of fluid is pinched off as the choroid plexus forms. This appears as a cyst inside the choroid plexus at the time of ultrasound. A choroid plexus cyst can be likened to a blister and is not considered a brain abnormality.
What is going to happen to the cyst?
In the vast majority of cases, the cyst resolves or disappears and has no consequences.

These cysts are associated with Trisomy 18 (and don't even look that up!), mainly if they see something wrong with another organ or part of her body. Because of this little Stella is getting some extra ultrasounds. Her ultrasound yesterday showed that all the little cysts have pooled together and made one big one. This is neither a good or a bad sign. This is just what they normally do. She is still small and they will look at her again in four weeks. Also she was being stubborn and wouldn't flip over so the sonographer had to scan her through her spine. She said the heart looked symmetrical which of course is a great sign. She just said there were some shadows from the spine that made it impossible to check those areas.

So this is where we are right now. And I truly feel at peace. I am grateful that Jed is a worthy priesthood holder who was able to give me a comfort blessing. I'm grateful that Heavenly Father knows the worrier that I am and gave such wonderful instructions through that blessing. When I start to think "what if" I just remind myself of that blessing and the calm, peaceful feeling comes.

  2. I always read your blog too! I am sorry you have been worried and stressed. I hope it makes you feel better to know that my friend's baby and my brother's baby was told the same thing and everything was fine for both babies. The cysts just went away. I am glad you are feeling better. I'll be praying for you and little stella.

  3. You know that at the end of the day, no matter what you get Stella in forever. I'm not saying if those cysts are good or bad. It could be nothing. It could be something. If it's something, you know you get the eternal promise to that baby. I do believe that in some sense we get to be with families, period. If it's something that she has issues growing up, you'll figure out how to help her out. You're a great mama, and Jed's a great dad. But maybe it's nothing. Regardless, I know you'll love that baby girl. I'm here for you, always. Love you lots! *hugs*

  4. Oh Kera! I'm so sorry you have to go through all this worrying! I haven't had ANYTHING pop up with my pregnancy and I still worry about everything- my check ups are basically my dr telling me to not worry so much. But I know that the Lord has a plan and reason for everything and that no matter what, He will provide a way for you to handle whatever He throws at you. Little Stella will be a blessing in your family's lives that you would never trade in a million years. Good luck and I'll pray for you!

  6. Kera! I love your blog - sorry I don't comment more! :) Anyway, I love you, Jed, Dalton, and little Stella so much! I know we have slightly different beliefs, but we both know that Christ is Lord and for that I am thankful. Christ is the Healer, the Prince of Peace, and the Comforter. Brent and I are believing for a complete recovery of little Stella and that when you go in for this next ultrasound, the cysts will be 100% gone and she'll be a little miracle baby, in Jesus' Name! We love you guys! Here are a few verses to encourage you!

"Now the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all." - 2 Thes 3:16

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." - 2 Timothy 1:7

  7. Kera,
I have to say amen to all the other comments. God provideds peace and miracles all the time. I too am praying and totally believing her little brain will be totally normal in every way. Pray always and lean not on your own understanding. Fear and faith can not reside at the same time. God is the God of faith never of fear. He calms all fears. Just ask Him to... Love you always, all 3.5 of you! Lisa
